Unknowingly, most people use self-care as a means of accepting themselves.
"Once I'm healthy, then I'll be happy," they say.
Joy is somehow and forever out ahead of them, never accessible right now.
If we need to be healthy to be happy, then it's conditional, which isn't really happiness at all; it's moreso a level of satisfaction that comes from perceiving control.
The truth is, when self-care doesn't stem from self-acceptance, it's self-rejection.
Sure, you may reach your goals, but rejecting yourself compromises your happiness, leaving health, not feeling so healthy.
"No level of self-improvement will ever make up for a lack of self-acceptance." Dr. Robert Holden
