The concept of change is typically predicated upon a short-term, instant gratification, aggressive, controlling, transactional mentality.
It's is both well-intentioned and impractical.
It's important to understand that 1. behavior change isn't possible, and 2. behavior change isn't the point.
Behaviors don't change as much as they evolve through a series of thoughts, emotional considerations, conversations, necessary humiliations, and purposeful acts.
The point is to understand why you're behaving that way, because then, and only then, will you stop fighting the behavior and start surrendering it as you see it as no longer useful.
