Movement Therapy Clients
When I first came to Fitness Solutions I was taking Advil at least twice a day to function with my stiffness and pain. Within a few of sessions of movement therapy I found myself not having to rely on the medicine. Mike Rizk has developed a routine of stretching and mobility exercises to target my problem spots. His observations of me walking and bending helped me correct habits that were aggravating my arthritic condition. So instead of reaching for a bottle of pills the first thing in the morning when I have difficulty moving, I start doing the custom routine Mike has developed for me. Mike has defined my "Starting Point" and is helping me move it forward.
I have been doing Movement Therapy with Mike for a year. The difference between now and when I started is significant. The first and most notable thing is how I feel in general and during exercise. Through Mike's analysis of my movement and limitations (or pain) in that movement, he developed an overall strategy including stretching and soft tissue therapy during sessions and stretching to be done outside of our sessions. The combination of these things has allowed me to move better and without pain. I recently ran a race that I have done twice before and since going to Mike have felt better than ever before and had a significantly better time! The second notable thing is how much I have learned about my body and where certain pain or limitations really come from. It causes me to be more aware when I am moving, to understand how the muscles all work together, and what the goals and benefits of the stretching and soft tissue work really are. These are things that I never took into consideration before. I've learned things about why my body does certain things that I never would have from any other form of treatment (ie. chiropractic). I am very happy with the progress made with Mike, and look forward to increasing the benefits I've had in running and overall well being in the future!!
Hi, Mike. I had just a couple of minutes to respond to your request for a testimonial.
I started running in 2002, learned to swim in 2005, and took up triathlon in 2007. In late 2007 I developed IT band problems. I tried sports massage and saw a chiropractor for ART treatments, and cut way back on my workouts. I got some relief, but when I would start to ramp up my running again, as soon as I reached about 10-12 miles per week, the IT band problem would reappear. After a couple of frustrating seasons of cut back/treat/rehab/recurrence, I got discouraged, not to mention out of shape.
It was at this point that I heard about Mike Rizk and Fitness Solutions. I came in for an initial consultation in June 2010. Within a couple of weeks, the IT band problem stopped, and I was able to increase my running gradually without a recurrence. I continued with the movement therapy and was able to compete in a sprint triathlon at the end of July, my first one in over two years.
I have continued working with Mike on some other issues and we have begun adding kettlebell workouts to my training.
I am looking forward to a great season in 2011, including triathlon, road racing, and a week of white-water rafting in the Grand Canyon this fall. Fitness Solutions is a key part of my plan for meeting my goals. Besides that, I'm just plain having fun!

I started going to FS one year ago because of severe Achilles Tendinitis and because my body was so out of whack. I kept falling all the time while skiing, mountain biking etc. I was in a vicious cycle and I couldn't run or ski anymore. I couldn’t imagine life without movement and I knew I had to do something. I was introduced to FS after a 5K race in New Brunswick where they had a demo and got really interested in their approach of integrating a full body movement concept.
I have been going twice a week for movement therapy and since then my balance is much improved and my movement more fluid. I started triathlon training again last October and skied for a week this winter without any pain. Now I know when I do experience any discomfort, I realize my body is giving me a signal and I know how to reposition my body to correct it.
Mike is also very personable, conscientious and passionate about his work, which makes it a pleasure to commit to this type of therapy that can be painful at times...like any good massages.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone tired of struggling with pain.
Private Training Clients
To call Fitness Solution and what Michael Rizk has developed "personal training" is really minimizing what FS is all about. From the initial idea of exercise and weight lifting, his philosophy has evolved into an integrated approach to a program for a healthy lifestyle. This includes the standard run of the mill "gym" type offerings but more important is the emphasis on proper posture and movement to try and avoid and treat chronic musculoskeletal aches and pains. Typical "trainers" are just not well versed in this field. The use of soft tissue work, "active release techniques" and active stretching exercises to supplement the vast range of aerobic, plyometric and dynamic muscle work is what makes FS unique and available to clients of all fitness levels.

Semi-Private Training Clients
I have been a member of FS for almost 1 year. My goals when becoming a member of FS were to get into better shape and feel better about my body. Over the past several months I have seen significant changes in my body and mind. I am currently involved in semi-private training. I enjoy this because I am paired with another person who has the same goals as myself. Working side by side with a partner provides great motivation and that extra push when you need it. FS provides an environment unlike any gym I have ever had a membership at.
Group Training Clients
I have been coming to Fitness Solutions for 3 years. After losing 130 lbs after weight loss surgery, I decided I needed to get active, but had no idea where to start. I had never been a member of a gym, or very active at all. The thought of joining a big gym, where I had to figure out all of the equipment, how to use it, etc was very scary to me!
I met Mike at a surgery support group meeting, and immediately felt that he would be able to help me in reaching my weight loss and fitness goals. I started seeing Mike 2x a week for personal training sessions. I was amazed at the additional weight I lost, another 60 lbs, and how strong and healthy I was feeling. Mike offered incredible encouragement and support - I probably would not have stuck with it if I did not have someone there to cheer me on through the tough days.
Mike introduced me to Kettlebells during our training sessions, and at first, I thought, there is no way I can do this. But, week by week I became more comfortable with various kettlebell exercises and was able to start increasing the weights that I used. I bought a set of kettlebells to use at home and my friends and family could not believe the exercises that I showed them, or that I could manage, what they thought, was a very heavy weight.
I started group training a little over 1 year ago, and absolutely love the group Kettlebell classes. It is so motivating to have a group to work out with - everyone is incredibly supportive of one another. We also laugh a lot! All of the class instructors - Mike, Laraine, Angela and Jen - do a thorough job of explaining and demonstrating new exercises, and give helpful tips and hints if anyone is having trouble with a new or not-so-new movement.
I am still a working towards my goals of losing more weight and increasing my strength and endurance. The group classes constantly present new challenges - I often think to myself during class, "How am I going to get through this exercise?". In the moment I may struggle and want to quit, but once I make it through a tough class, I am so proud of myself, and really thankful to the class instructors for continuing to push me to do something I never thought I could do.
I really cannot say enough about Fitness Solutions - no matter what your fitness level is, there is a class, or training session for you.
At Fitness Solutions the trainers really and truly care about me as a person. The trainers are interested in my overall well being, in addition to my physical health. I used to take advantage of personal training, but more recently found the Group Training Model to be a great addition to my fitness goals. To me, it feels like "personal group training". The trainers take the time to look at each individual during classes to ensure they are maximizing the benefits of the classes, and making sure that all attendees are performing the workout moves accurately and without injury. They are even there to give me that extra cheer when I feel like I can't do even one more move! And let's not forget the comfort I get knowing that my group-mates are in the same boat as me; we are all trying to get fit, get the best out of the class, have fun and cheer each other on while doing so.
Whether it's personal training or group training, these trainers are the best at what they do, and I have found that in regard to my fitness needs, this is really the place to be!

I've been coming to Fitness Solutions for almost 18 months. Within the first five months I lost about 15 pounds and achieved my goal of riding a bicycle 250 miles from central NJ to Washington D.C. in the UnityTour Challenge Ride. Since that time I've gained almost 7 pounds of lean muscle. I set new goals for 2011 and believe I will achieve them before the end of June.
Fitness Solutions is not a typical gym. We have worked out outside, in full view of the general public, flipping tires, running, pushing sleds, swinging kettlebells and many other exercises, including Mike's jumping jacks matrix that only he can do, instead of running on a treadmill in front of a TV. The Group Training Classes were the biggest part of my success. The workouts vary from heavy lifting to intense cardio intervals and many times both. However, there is no need for anyone to feel intimidated because everyone does the same workout, the same repetitions, the same circuit, in the same amount of time with plenty of encouragement from the instructors and other group members.
I can tell you quickly that I came to FS because I was getting bored with working out and wanted a new challenge. I have been into fitness and sports forever. Starting with basketball and soccer young and running at age 15 to getting into weight training seriously to spinning and kickboxing. But the last couple years I was bored and in a rut. This was the best decision ever. The workouts are fun, very challenging, and quick-cardio and weight training all in one. The most challenged I've ever been in a short period of time. FS has gotten me excited about working out again, has pushed my strength to new levels and after about a year I have seen great results!
Knowing Mike and Laraine and how passionate they are about health and fitness, I knew signing on at Fitness Solutions would deliver some new and exciting fitness challenges; something I wasn't getting at my gym. Here I am, 2 years later still being challenged and enjoying the results. Both have changed the appearance of my physique, which I LOVE! But they also provide a nice mix of cardio, strength and endurance training. A total body workout all wrapped up in a 45 minute session. These classes were just what I was looking for to help me improve my cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength.
